Calibration of Rectal Temperature Probe

The rectal temperature probe has been calibrated for the control unit that it came with and does not need to be calibrated again unless it is used with another unit or at a significantly different temperature (default calibration temperature is 37 degrees C).

The following instructions apply to older units with beige casing:

calibration

  • remove the 2 upper screws on each side of the control unit and lift off the lid
  • turn the main switch to the position "Probe"
  • bring the probe to the desired temperature (usually 37 degree C) using a water bath and a calibrated thermometer. Immerse the probe at least 2 cm deep
  • using a jewelers screwdriver, adjust the potentiometer labelled "Adjust Probe" until the display reads the correct temperature

For units shipped after August 2002 (with blue casing) the following instructions apply:

calibration

  • remove the 4 upper screws on each side of the control unit and lift off the lid
  • turn the temperature selector switch to the position "Probe"
  • bring the probe to the desired temperature (usually 37 degree C) using a water bath and a calibrated thermometer. Immerse the probe at least 2 cm deep
  • using a jewelers screwdriver, adjust the potentiometer on the circuit board labelled "Probe" until the display reads the correct temperature

If you should experience any difficulty with the calibration, Vestavia Scientific, LLC, will be glad to calibrate the instrument for a nominal charge only.
